Ms. Cynthia Wilcox Obituary

Cynthia Renee Wilcox, a lifelong resident of Wimauma, Florida, and a dedicated servant to her community, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 3, 2026, surrounded by her daughters. She was 67 years old.  Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 11:00 am at Mt. Moriah M.B. Church, 5909 Vel Street Wimauma, FL 33598 with Rev. Ike Bunton, Officiating.  Interment will follow in Wimauma Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 6012 Edina St, Wimauma, FL 33598.

Cynthia, born on September 28, 1958, was a woman deeply rooted in her faith. She graduated from East Bay Senior High School and continued her education at Hillsborough Community College, where she earned her Associate’s Degree in Education.

Cynthia’s passion for nurturing young minds led her to a distinguished 30-year career with Hillsborough County Public Schools. After retiring, she often reflected fondly on her final assignment at Memorial Middle School, where she deeply enjoyed the daily interactions and bonds she formed with her students

Cynthia, a devoted woman of God, was a faithful member of Life Point Church in Tampa, Florida, serving under the leadership of Pastor Major C. Jones. While her professional and spiritual lives were full, her greatest joy was found at home. She was the cornerstone of her family and cherished every moment spent with them, especially her grandchildren, who were the light of her life.

Cynthia was preceded in death by: her mother, Gladys Littles Wilcox; her father, Monroe Covington, Sr.; her sisters, Gladys Gay Wilcox and Carolyn Wilcox Rhodes; her brothers, Bernard Wilcox, Harold (Ray) Wilcox, and Monroe Covington, Jr; and Special Grandson Jaquan M. Sharp.

​She leaves behind a rich legacy and is survived by: ​her children, Vonice Wilcox Wright (Derrick), Adrian Wilcox, Somona Wilcox, Rotunda Wilcox, and Twanya Cooper; grandchildren: Adrian Wilcox, Jr., Deitrick Wright, Sanai Wright, Ayden Wilcox, and A’Rayon Wilcox; sisters, Joyce Wilcox, Carletta Floyd, Jean Gibson, and Carrie Bell Covington; brother, Edward Lee Covington; Aunts and Uncles, Geneva Nelson, Nancy Nellon (Isaiah), and Ira Allen; and ​a host of nieces and nephews, including Kattron Coffield, Traci Gay, Randall Nelson, and Malcolm Wilcox; and many cousins, including Minnie Hammond, Lester Allen, Vivian Henry, Phyllis Matthews and Cliff Matthews; and ​a host of dear friends, including Rita Johnson, Cheryl Young, Jasmine Sipp, and Joyce Young.

​Cynthia’s warmth, dedication to education, and unwavering love for her family will be missed by all who knew her.

 

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 16, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33606.
