Ms. Evelyn Walker Obituary

Evelyn Delores Walker (Atkinson) was born on April 16, 1941, in Brunswick, Georgia to the late Elizabeth Atkinson and Henry Johnson. She was the firstborn child and loving big sister of her four siblings (who preceded her in death), Frances Burguess, Karolyn Green, Wilbur Atkinson, and David Massey. Evelyn lived a life full of love, faith, and family. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and crochet queen.

As a young woman, Evelyn moved to the Bronx, New York. From an early age, she aspired to travel and enjoy the finer things in life, passions she shared with her children. Evelyn enjoyed cooking for her family and others; she was known for her mouth-watering biscuits, pies, and cakes. She took pride in her ability to crochet one-of-a-kind items in all sizes and designs. Evelyn worked as a domestic and retired from Columbia University.

After her 80th birthday, Evelyn relocated to Riverview, Florida with her daughter. She attended Love First Christian Center and donated countless handmade crochet blankets to the senior’s ministry. Evelyn held a special place in the hearts of her family and friends. She was a cornerstone of strength and perseverance.

Evelyn is survived by her children; Pamela Johns (Brown) and Paul Walker; her grandchildren, Janine Okeya (Walker), Kaleila Walker, and Imani Riley (Adegbuyi); her great-grandchildren, Layla Walker and Hunter-Riley Green; and her close cousins Linda Brown, Maxine Lewis, Lestine Thompson, Shawn Thomas and a host of many others whom she loved and loved her.

Though she will be greatly missed, we take comfort in knowing that she is now with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, where there is no more pain or sorrow. Evelyn’s legacy will forever live in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.
