Ms. Gladys Mae Roan of Brandon, FL passed away on Friday, August 2, 2024. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024, 12:30 P.M. at Mt Olive AME Church, 1902 W. Lasalle Street, Tampa, FL 33607 with Minister David Hall, Officiating. Interment will follow in Hillsboro Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 2323 W. Brandon Blvd, Brandon, FL 33511.
Gladys Mae Roan was born December 12, 1924, in Lloyd, Florida, to Alberta Fryson and Shelly Green. She was raised from birth as an only child of Josephine and Lovis Joyner on their ten-acre farm in Lloyd, Florida. A country girl at heart, whether riding her horse, fishing, or helping her parents maintain the farm, she was in her element. Gladys attended Long Pond School in her area. After Long Pond, her parents sent her by train to Harlem, New York, to broaden her view of the world.
Gladys returned home in 1946 to marry her former husband, William Roan Sr., upon his return from World War II. Together, they had eight children and raised their family in Miami, Florida. Gladys was an excellent cook and loved singing the gospel.
In the early morning of Friday, August 02, 2024, Gladys traded her labor for reward and went home to be with the Lord. She was a member of Concord A.M.E. Church in Miccosukkee, Florida, where she was baptized on June 11, 1936, at 12 years old. She described that day as, “When God shook my dungeon and chains fail off!”
She was preceded in death by: her daughter, Janet Cassandra Roan.
She leaves a lifetime of love and memories with: her sons, William B. Roan Jr., Gregory Roan, and Alphonso Roan; daughters, Lena R. Snyder, Kathleen R. Stewart, Cecile R. Agard, and Donna L. Roan; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 1 soon to come; and a host of relatives and friends.
Special Thank You to her Caregivers: Kathleen, Tiffany, and Brittany...aka “Glady’s (Sweets) Angels”
