Ms. Marjorie M. Whyte

With love and gratitude for a life well lived, we celebrate the life and memory of Marjorie Whyte, who peacefully departed this life on September 2, 2026, at the age of 92. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at St. Chad’s Episcopal Church, 5609 N. Albany Ave. Tampa, FL 33603. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park, 4615 E. Hanna Avenue, Tampa, FL 33610.

Marjorie was born on October 16, 1933, in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, to Irvin and Iola Whyte.

Marjorie completed her formal education in Trinidad. As a young adult, she competed in a sport called netball. Hairstyling was her passion and she went on to obtain a cosmetology certification at Gibbs Beauty School in Trinidad. She followed this profession until she migrated to the United States.

She arrived in Brooklyn, New York, in 1978. During her time there, she enjoyed an active social life but did not forget her spiritual beliefs. She relocated to Tampa with her daughter in 1992 and played a pivotal role in caring for her grandchildren. She also found fulfilment volunteering for years at the Chapel in the Pines Church food bank and the Town and Country Hospital.

Marjorie enjoyed cooking, reading and music, especially calypso, soca, Christmas carols and parang. Journaling was her specialty; Marjorie recorded every event that she deemed memorable, even down to all who called her on her birthday. She was often sought out by family members to search her archives for long-forgotten information.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Irvin and Iola Whyte; siblings, Ursula Baptiste, Leonora Wilson, Michael and Cedric Whyte.

She leaves to mourn her daughter, Sandra Whyte; grandchildren, Dainea Culpeper-Rios and Andrei Archer; great-grandchildren, J’siah Turner and Zoe Turner; sister, Agnes Whyte; several nieces and nephews; and many friends who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at St. Chad’s Episcopal Church, 5609 N. Albany Ave. Tampa, FL 33603.
