Ms. Mary Wells Obituary

Mary Louise Wells of Tampa, FL, passed away on Wednesday, December 24, 2025.  Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens, 4025 W. Palmetto Street, Tampa, FL 33607, with Reverend Anthony W. Greene, Officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery, 4615 E. Hanna Avenue, Tampa, FL 33610.

Louise was born on September 1, 1945, in Blakely, GA, to Willie and Ruby C. Wells.  She relocated to Tampa, FL, where she built a life marked by unwavering faith.  Louise joined Highland Missionary Baptist Church, where she worshipped for many years.  Later, she joined First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens, where she was a devoted member and enjoyed singing in the choir.

She worked at National Linen and Ola Café for over a decade and later joined the Hyatt Regency family, where she spent over twenty years before retiring. Louise’s favorite pastimes were enjoying family, cooking and traveling to Gospel Concerts.

Louise was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and a faithful friend to many.  She was a woman of strength, resilience and courage.

She was preceded in death by:  her loving parents, Willie and Ruby C. Wells; brother, Marcelles Herds; and sister, Yvonne Wiggins.

Louise leaves to treasure her memories: four children, Pastor Eddie (Tammie) Gilbert, Marthann Wells, Zachary (Tawanda) Sureller, and Nicole Garrett; grandchildren, Eureka Carswell, Edward (Regina) Gilbert, Shane (Mistie) Boyd, Commisyon Wells, Maronté Gilbert, LaQuashia Sureller, Zachary Sureller Jr., and Cedric Arnold; great grandchildren, Damariyon Frazier, Kayla Gilbert, Kaliyah Gilbert, Trinity Gilbert, Milan Gilbert, Maronté Gilbert Jr., Kash Boyd, Braven Boyd, Devlin Cochran Jr., Dylon Cochran, Kinnidi Spain, Alejandro Sturks, and Jaylen Gant; brother, James Wells; affectionately knew as brother, Milton Wade; devoted niece, Gloria Sheppherd; loving cousin, Teddy Jordan; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33606.
