Obituary

Ms Patricia Washington of Tampa, Florida, passed away on Monday, May 8, 2023.  A Homegoing Celebration and Funeral Service will be held at Mt. Olive AME Church, 1902 W. La Salle Street, Tampa, FL 33607, on Saturday, May 20, 2023, 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Gregory V. Gay, Sr. Officiating.  Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery.

Patricia was born to Rev. Joseph Washington, Sr., and Mrs. Bertha B. Washington. Known as “Pat”, “Sal”, and “Sally”, Patricia attended elementary and middle school in Tampa and graduated from Tampa Bay Vocational Technical High School.  She continued her education at the University of South Florida where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education.  As a post-secondary educator, she taught at several Hillsborough County schools.  Respected by her faculty and administrative colleagues and adored by her students, Patricia was recognized throughout her career for teaching, innovation, and emphasis on computer skills that allowed her to build a digital bridge for her students to take advantage of the benefits of technology in society.  

Patricia’s life was focused on God, family, church, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.  She joined Mount Olive AME Church and served in its ministry in the role of Administrative Assistant to the Pastor. She also attended and actively participated in the churches where her father served as pastor, including First Baptist Church of Progress Village, St. Joseph Missionary Baptist Church, and Illumination Christian Center.  

Patricia was preceded in death by: her parents; sister, LaShawn Washington; fiancé, Henry Dawson; and niece, Sheree Harris;

Patricia leaves to cherish her memory: her six siblings (and spouses),  Joseph (Brenda) Washington, Jr., Cheryl Lynn Washington Harris, Gilbert Washington, Michael (Gina) Washington, Angela (Frank) DeBose, and LaVonne Washington; God sister, Valerie (Vincent) Reid; nieces and nephews, T’wanda (Andre) Morris, Sharika Washington, Michael (Deidra) Washington, Alison DeBose, Talisa Harris, Ashley Washington, Edward Joseph Harris, Mallory Washington, Farin DeBose, Cedashe Dunn, Alexis Morris, Cedric Dunn, Andre Morris, Jr., Christopher Dunn, Thomas Stewart, Jeneque Grubb, Edward Joseph Harris, Jr., Luna Washington, Jayla Harris, and Malia Washington; dear aunts, Lucy Dessesseau, Corrie Lee (Charles) Livingston, and Shirley Hutchins; and a host of other family and friends.  

Patricia’s life is celebrated! by her large family, host of friends, sorority sisters, and communities that were special and dear to her, including the Washington, Eberhart, Collins, Howard, Turner, DeBose, and Crews families.  Our Sally was dearly loved; our lives were fuller because of her kind and generous heart and beautiful and welcoming spirit.

A visitation will be held on Friday, May 19, 2023, 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Ray Williams Memorial Chapel. MASK RECOMMENDED.
