Ms. Sarah Whittington of Tampa, FL, passed away on May 3, 2026. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, May 16, 2026, 11:00 a.m. at Springhill Missionary Baptist Church, 8119 E. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Tampa, FL 33619, with Pastor Eugene Garnett, Sr., Officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery, 4615 E. Hanna Avenue, Tampa, FL 33610.
Ms. Sarah Whittington was born on December 11, 1925, in Tifton, GA, to Lillie Mae Davis and Jessie Davis. Ms. Whittington was a native of Tifton, GA and moved to Tampa, FL at an early age. She was educated in the public schools of Hillsborough County and worked in hospitality for many years.
Ms. Whittington, was a member of First Baptist Church of West Tampa for many years. She later became a devoted member of Spring Hill Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Eugene Garnett Sr. During her time there, she faithfully served with the Greeter’s Ministry, Women’s Ministry, Sunday School, Senior Bible Study & the Pastor’s Aide Ministry. Her unwavering love for the Lord, her church family, and her community was evident in every aspect of her life.
Ms. Sarah Whittington’s life was a testament to her faith, perseverance, and profound love for her family. Her memory will forever be cherished and remembered by all who knew and loved her. Her love and guidance were a great source of strength and encouragement to her family, friends, and others. She was like a mother to many, and her absence leaves an irreplaceable void.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lillie Mae and Jessie Davis; granddaughters, Sheila Sutton, Renee Turner, Deon Johnson; and great-grandson, Norman Wright Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memory: three sons, Vernis Johnson, Nathaniel Johnson, Horace Whittington, Jr. (Shellyann); two daughters, Gwendolyn Lail (Lincoln) and Ernestine Johnson Robinson; grandchildren, Vernice Allen (Aubrey), Valerie Alexander (Darryl), Fonteshe Graham (Andre), Lesley Hamilton (Doug), Jacqueline George (Warren), James Turner, Kendra Barber (Pastor Charles Kennedy), Tomaco Shellman, Darren Johnson, Phan Robinson, Julio Douglas (Melany), Horace Whittington II, Kanavis Whittington and Nicole Benjamin (Henry); a host of great / great-great grandchildren, family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 15, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33606.
