Sharon Elaine McBride Johnson was born on June 11, 1950, to the late Leroy and Geneva McBride.  She attended Dobyville and Progress Elementary Schools and was a 1968 graduate of Middleton High School. After high school she matriculated to Florida A & M University and later graduated from Hillsborough Community College with an Opticianry Associate of Science Degree. Upon receiving her degree, Sharon became employed by a number of Optical Centers in Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Maryland as a Store and as a Regional Manager.  Her devotion to her craft was evident by her skilled assistance with not only fitted but also fashionable and affordable eyewear to improve customers’ vision.

Sharon was previously married to Albert Garner and to this union one son, Ali Garner, was born.  She was a member of the Middleton High School Alumni, Class of 1968 and was an active member of Victory A. M. E. Church of Progress Village, FL. She could always be found sharing her time and talents with others, offering a smile and words of encouragement to brighten their day.

Sharon leaves to cherish her memories: a devoted son, Ali Garner (Karen); two grandchildren, Javari and Braelyn Garner; two brothers, Rev. Donald L. McBride (Cynthia), and Michael Lucas (Adrienne); a sister/cousin, Stephenia Barrington (Rev. Kennith); one niece, Akacia Louis (Robert); four nephews, Damu McBride, Kareem Lucas, Akil Lucas, and Marquis Lucas; Gwen Ladson, with whom she shared grandmother and mother-in-law duties; and Steve Johnson, former husband and friend.  She was loved by so many people including her paternal family, the McBride’s of West Hyde Park -Tampa; her maternal family, the Hardwick’s of Jacksonville, FL; the Banks family of Progress Village; sister-in-law Margaret Garner Sims and the Garner family; sister-in-law, Pattie Johnson Harris; a special daughter, Mentoria Gordon (Jeff); and special friends, Pamela Colleton, Ann Saffore, Sallie Holmes, and Sharen Robinson.  Her circle of friends and acquaintances was bountiful.

Sharon now leaves a rich heritage of love and concern to all who knew her, especially her beloved family. She was a devoted friend to so many; to know her was to love her. Rest well sweet Queen. God Loves you Best!
