Ms. Stephanie Michelle Evans “Step” of Tampa, FL, passed away on May 4, 2026. Homegoing Celebration will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at New Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 3325 E. Emma Street, Tampa, FL 33610, Reverend Ronnie L. Murray, Sr., Pastor, with Pastor Elder Derrick Williams, Joyful Noise, Officiating. Interment will follow in Orange Hill Cemetery, 4900 E. Chelsea Street, Tampa, FL 33610.
Stephanie Michelle Evans, born on January 17, 1960, at Lily White Hospital in Tampa, FL, to Alexander M. Smith Sr. and Carolyn E. Smith, grew up in West Tampa. Her life took her to various places, including Freeport, Bahamas, and Jersey City. Stephanie dedicated her career to teaching at Meacham Elementary and Beulah Baptist Church. She was known for her caring spirit and unwavering dedication to helping others.
Stephanie, a graduate of Leto High School, married Scott Evans Jr. shortly after graduation and together they raised three beautiful children. She cherished spending quality time with her family and friends, creating countless cherished memories with her children and grandchildren. Stephanie will be deeply missed.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Alexander Smith Sr. and Carolyn Smith; grandparents, James Lewis Sr. and Christine Lewis, and Horace and Nancy Smith; brother, Alexander Smith Jr.; niece, Michelle Rubin; aunts, Barbara Williams, Linda Romer, Nancy Parker, Antonia and Geneva Hall; uncle, James T. Lewis, Jr.; cousins, Valeria Crawford, Curtis and Evelyn Williams, and Charnelle and Jessica Gibbs.
Stephanie leaves behind a legacy of love through her children, Darien Evans Sr., Joy Evans, and Dana Evans (Jerry); grandchildren, JaQua Mack, Shelby Pole Jr., Jaekwon Evans, Darien Evans Jr., Sha’Vion Pole, Jericka Green, Ja’Myiah Quick, Jerri Green, Malik Childs Sr., Jeremiah Green, and Patrick Keenan; great-grandchildren, Malik Childs Jr., Maliah Childs, Malikai Childs, and Mackenzie Childs; brother, Billy Smith Sr.; sister, Sylvia Smith-Rubin (Quint); nieces, Lakisha (Gregory), Sharolyn, Chrisanne (Antonio), Ebony (Calvin), Ashley, Qualisha, Courtney, Sah’mya, Yakira and Ryhkdria; nephews, Carl, Yuri, Matthew, Billy Jr., and Raquille; uncles, Jack Lewis (Deborah), and Walter (Hattie) Crawford; aunts, Delores Williams and Jackie Lewis; special friends, Ann, Mattie, Rhonda and Veronica; and a host of cousins, friends, neighbors, classmates and her family from Bahamas and Turks and Caicos.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 15, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33606.
