Nathaniel Hornsby Obituary

Mr. Nathaniel Hornsby of Tampa, Florida passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2020. Private Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, October 20, at 11: 00 a.m.  at Ray Williams Memorial Chapel, 301 N. Howard Avenue with Reverend T. D. Leonard, Pastor, officiating.  Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery.  Please follow the CDC guidelines. Masks are required. 

Mr. Nathaniel Hornsby was a native of Tampa Florida and a resident of Tampa for seventy-five years. He was educated in Hillsborough County Public School System. He was a graduate of Howard W. Blake High School, Class of 1964. He served in the United States Army as a Paratrooper and he was a member of the American Legion, Post 0111.  Hornsby was employed as a Driver/Deliverer at UPS for thirty -seven years. On his journey, his life reflected happiness as he met and greeted others. He was well known as the “Captain”.  

During his illness, he fought a good fight, especially exhibiting strength given to him from above, seeing after his wife Sylvia until the end.

He leaves to cherish precious memories: his beloved wife of 50 years, Sylvia Hornsby; sons, Rawn Hornsby, and Chris Mahone; grandchildren,  Jaron Hornsby, Carina Hornsby, and Mekayla Valentin; sisters, Mrs. Ruth Mae Hornsby Harper and Mrs. Marion Hornsby; sisters –in-law, Mrs. Mary Hornsby, Mrs. Cynthia Lewis, (Rufus), and Ms. Sonja Hardy (John); nieces, Mrs. Linda Harrell (Ray), Mrs. Sandra Davis Myers (Jimmy), Ms. Carol Lewis, and Mrs. Candace Dean (Erroll); nephews, Greg Hornsby, Henry Giles, Perry Giles, Billy Giles, and Rodney Lewis;  God daughter,  Jameshia Jefferson; adopted daughter, Samantha Romero; and a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins  and  special friends.
