Noble James C. Holmes, Jr., passed away peacefully at his residence on Wednesday, September 4, 2024. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 21, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at the 34th Street Church of God, 3000 N. 34th Street, Tampa, Florida 33605, where Bishop Thomas Scott serves as Senior Pastor. Elder Tommie Jones/Officiant, with Elder Brent A. Brown, Associate Pastor of Bethel Community Baptist Church, St. Petersburg, Florida/Eulogist. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery.
Noble Holmes was one of six children born to the late James C. Holmes, Sr., and Ruthie Lee Holmes in Tampa, Florida. A man of impeccable style and taste, he was an avid reader, lover of music, and adored his wife and family. He served as the Worshipful Master of Mt. Pleasant Lodge #13 and later served as a Past Master of St. Pete Lodge #109. He also served as a member of Sunshine City Consistory # 147 (PHA), a Sublime Prince of the Royal Secret 32nd degree, and was elected as Illustrious Potentate for Harram Temple #23 Prince Hall Shriners (2018-2019).
Serving as an overseer, he spearheaded several Temple and Imperial Council charitable endeavors, including Advisor to Harram Court #96 Daughters (Oasis of Tampa/Desert of Florida), Educational/Charity Program, Temple Youth Program, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Shriners as Mentors (SAM), National Community Health Initiative (NCHI), St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Partnership, NAACP Voter Registration/Education Drives, and the Volunteer Program at the Tampa Metropolitan Ministries, among others.
Noble Holmes enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in Desert Storm and Desert Shield. He was a world traveler who received numerous accolades, including Sailor of the Year in 1994 and the Military Excellence Award from the Non-Commissioned Officers Association. He retired from the U.S. Navy in 1999, after 20-plus years of service.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, James C. Holmes Sr. and Ruthie Lee Holmes; grandparents, Charlie and Liza Weathers; brother, William Bradshaw; nephew, Ramon Bradshaw; and sister, Karetha Scott.
