Ola Mae Conner Obituary

Mrs. Ola Mae Conner, of Tampa, Florida, passed away on Friday, September 10, 2021. Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 26th at 12:00PM in the Ray Williams Memorial Chapel, 301 N. Howard Ave, Tampa, FL 33606.  Interment will be at Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery, on Tuesday, September 28th at 11:00AM.

Mrs. Ola Mae Conner was born on October 31, 1943, in Dooling Georgia to the late Sam Haugabook, Sr. and Mae Ella Oliver. Under the care of her aunt, Mary Marshall, she relocated to Tampa, Florida, at an early age, after the passing of her mother.  She attended Booker T. Washington School of Tampa.

Mrs. Conner gave her life to God at an early age; she was a member of the Greater Mt. Moriah Primitive Baptist Church. She was a God-fearing, praying, and family-oriented woman. She was also kind-hearted, loveable, and ever-so humble.  She met and married Mr. Willie James Conner, Sr.

Mrs. Ola was previously employed with Variety Shrimp Company as well as Singleton Shrimp Company for many years.  She and her husband owned and operated several successful businesses and taverns – Garrison, My Place, Lil Bruzs, Bop City and Broadway Bar. The businesses flourished until the death of Mr. Conner.

She was preceded in death, by her husband, Willie J. Conner, Sr., her daughter, Jacqueline Welch, her son, Achlious Conner, stepson, Lemorris Clinton, and grandsons: Aubrey Conner and Ernest Fisher, Jr.

She is survived by her children: Willie J. Conner, Jr., Gwendolyn Fisher, Adrien Conner, Sr., and Vickie Conner; son-in-law, Jospeh Welch, Sr.; grandchildren: Eric Conner, Antwan Conner, Chauncey Welch, Alvin Conner, Tijawanna Conner, Keith Jackson, Jr., Adrian Conner, Tasheria Denmark, Keon Jackson, Gloria Clinton, Shantheria Conner, Willie Conner, III, Derrick Denmark, Taquilla Wilson, Pearlesha Fisher, Erica Rhodes, Shakeila Denmark, Alexys Rhodes, Joseph Welch, Jr., Candethia Denmark, Elijah and Lakisha Rhodes, Adren Conner Jr., Porshe Harden and Asiah Conner; 38 great grandchildren, all of Tampa, FL, and three great grandchildren.  He also leaves his brother, Sam (Ora) Haugubook, Jr., and sister, Mary (Maurice) McDonald, all of Dooling, GA, Martha Palmer of Orlando, FL; sister-in-law, Loretta Conner of Charlotte, NC; uncle, Abraham (Johnnie) Conner of Leesburg, FL, as well as devoted friends: Helen Thomas, Pamela Jackson, Rose Jordan, and Dorothy Peterson, along with a host of sorrowing nieces, nephews and loving family and friends.

Public visitation will be held Saturday, September 25, 2021, from 4pm until 7pm at the Ray Williams Funeral Home. MASKS ARE REQUIRED.
