On Tuesday, December 27, 1949 Francina and Sham Burrows welcomed a beautiful bouncing baby girl in the small settlement of McQueen’s Cat Island in the Bahamas. She was named Olga Burrows.
As a child, Mena (as she was affectionately called) sang in the church choir, attended the all-age school and enjoyed the island life alongside her siblings on Cat Island.
Mena met her husband, Enos in the spring of 1970 at a church function. After their courtship, the couple were married on November 3, 1971. Mena and her husband started their life together in New Providence where their union was blessed with five children: Monette, Clarice, Tamika, Shenique and Tanya.
In addition to being a dedicated wife and mother, Mena loved to cook. She combined her love of cooking and her entrepreneurial spirit to establish Johnson’s Takeaway with her husband Enos. The restaurant became a legacy for Mena and her family, serving the Bahamian community for over 30 years.
Anyone who knew her, knew that she loved to travel. She sought and found adventures, met new people in 4 continents and over 20 countries. This love of travel was passed down to her children with whom she shared many adventures. Be it her first visit or one of many, she always travelled with all her children.
Mena was a bright star to all she met and to those who had the fortune of loving her. An open heart and an infectious smile made lifelong friends from chance encounters.
Mena lived a good life. She lived a full life. We were blessed to know and love her.
Mena had an unwavering faith in God as a life-long member of Zion Baptist Church, Nassau Bahamas
On July 8, 2021 at age 71 Mena our beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend went home to rest with Jesus.
Mena was predeceased by her parents, Sham and Francina Burrows; her brothers, Orthneil and, James Burrows along with her sisters, Meread Burrows, Remalia Clarke, Maudline Joseph, and Fairmena Burrows.
Mena is survived by her loving husband, Enos Johnson; her children, Monette, Clarice, Tamika, Shenique and Tanya Johnson; her sisters, Theresa Burrows, Wendy Rolle, Jenny Darling; and grandchildren, Ashlee Sawyer, Evan and Nicholas Johnson. Mena is also survived by a host of friends, nieces, and nephews.
Sincerest thanks from the family to all the friends and loved ones for their condolences, support and words of encouragement.
