Mr. Otis James Colbert, Sr. of Tampa, Florida passed away Monday, February 8, 2021. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, February 20 at 11:00 a.m. at Highland Avenue Church of Christ, 2800 N. Highland Avenue with Pastor, Dr. T. R. Daly, Sr., officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Please follow the CDC Guidelines. Masks are required.
Mr. Otis James Colbert, Sr. was a native of Barbour County, Eufaula, Alabama and attended Rebecca Comer High School, Bakerhill, AL. He moved to Tampa, Florida in 1963 and was the proud Owner/Operator of Colbert’s Auto Repair for many years until his retirement.
Mr. Colbert was united in holy matrimony to his beloved wife, Mildred Williams in 1974. To this union a son was born, Otis James Colbert Jr., AKA “O.J.”. Mr. Colbert obeyed the gospel of Christ in 1978 and became a member of Highland Avenue Church of Christ where he remained a hardworking faithful member until the day he was called home.
His hobbies included: fishing, hunting and re-building cars, but most of all he loved to spend time with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Lee Hunter and Dixie Lou Colbert Hunter.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Mildred W. Colbert; loving son, Otis J. Colbert, Jr. and wife Latia; two beautiful grandchildren, T’ari and Zion; siblings, Rosa Mae Colbert, Jacksonville, FL, Martha Groom, Jacksonville, FL, Glenda White, Phoenix City, AL, Murray Lee Hunter, Clarkesville, TN, Rebecca Shorter (Larry), Eufaula, AL, Jolinda Walker (George), Dothan, AL, Robert Hunter (Alice), Eufaula, AL, Jenetta Dozier, Eufaula, AL, Earnestine Harris (Andre), Eufaula, AL, Gary Appling, Eufaula, AL, Joseph Hunter, Jr., Eufaula, AL, and Darrell Hunter, Eufaula, AL; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
The remains will repose from 3 – 7 p.m. on Friday, February 19, at Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33606. We are asking family and friends to please follow the CDC Guidelines. Masks are required.
