Reverend James Berrien Obituary

Rev. James Wilkie Berrien of Sun City, FL passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2023. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2023, 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, 5909 Vel Street, Wimauma FL 33598, with Reverend Ikie T. Bunton, Pastor of Mount Moriah M.B. Church, Wimauma, Florida Officiating, and Reverend John Lang of New Bethel M.B. Church, Parrish, Florida, Eulogist. Interment will follow in Wimauma Community Cemetery. MASK RECOMMENDED.

 

Rev. Berrien was born May 14, 1941, in Ft. Lonesome, Florida. He was the oldest of seven children born to the late James Matthew, and Lillie Mae Berrien. He was raised in Wimauma, Florida with his siblings.

 

Rev. Berrien was preceded in death by: his Parents, James Matthew, and Lillie Mae Berrien; Grandparents, George Henry Berrien, Sula Berrien Jackson, Charlie Jackson, Rev. John Levins Sr., and Susie Gooden Levins; Brother, Theodore Berrien; Sister, Gloria Young; Mother-in-Law, Goldie Garnett; Brother-in-Laws, Earl, and Charlie Garnett; and Special Cousin, (like a brother) Reverend Ezell Berrien.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted Wife of 62 years, Thelma Louise; Children who were the light of his life, James Alfonso Berrien (Edith), Wimauma, Fl., Jackie Berrien Brown (Rodney) Dover, Fl., Sylvia Ann Berrien, Seffner, FL., and Rosalind Berrien-Jones (Patrick), Riverview, FL.; Grandchildren, RaShon, James Lee, Krystal (Robert), Joy (Marco), Kareem (Kelly), Tony, Toshia (Joseph), Jimmy, Richard, Tre’, Arianna, Nia, and Adalia; 28 Great grandchildren; 12 Great-Grandchildren; Brothers, Robert Berrien (Inell), John Berrien (Altamese), and Larry Berrien; Sister, Pamela Berrien; Special Aunt, Ora Bell Levins; Sisters-in-law, Bertha Lundy, and Ethel Garnett; Brother-in-law, James Garnett; Special Cousins, Julia Mae McLean, Clara “Sukie” Russell, and Jeannette Harrison; Special Nieces, Ebony Young, and Susan Maple; Special Friends, Rev. Fletcher Lawson, Bro. Floyd, Sis. Ethel Dozier, Gwendolyn West, Dea. Robert Sims, Sis. Mary Dixon, and Sis. Daisy Cooper; and a host of loving family members especially Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, Treasured Friends, and his beloved Church Family at New Bethel M.B Church.

 

The visitation will be held on Friday January 27, 2023, from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, 5909 Vel Street, Wimauma FL 33598. MASK RECOMMENDED.
