Mr. Robert James Gaines of Tampa/Thonotosassa, FL, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2020. Due to the current restrictions from the CDC, the graveside service will be closed to the public. A Graveside Service will be conducted Saturday, May 9, 2020, at 12:00 Noon at Pine Hill Cemetery, Inverness, FL 34452 with Reverend James Franklin, officiating. Interment will follow.
Mr. Robert Gaines, as he was affectionately known was a native of Inverness, FL and a resident of Tampa and Bartow for more than 60 years. He was educated in the public schools of Citrus County and was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, Class of 1957.
He inherited a passion for cooking from his mother. Robert retired as a Supervisor/Foreman in the Hi Rise Construction Industry and was a member of the Local 1207 Union.
He was preceded in death by: his father, Robert James Gaines; mother, Ernestine "Sweetie" Gibbs; uncles, A.G. Gibbs and Russell Gibbs; aunts, Oreatha King, Emma Gibbs, Gussie Lee Tims, and Lillie Anthony; and cousin, Elizabeth Grice.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories: children, Joann Kohn, Derek Hunter, Roderick "Wayne" Thomas, Robin Rene, Tambra Gaines and Kimberly Gaines; grandchildren, Adriana Jenae, Cameron, Jaden, Ronald, De'Ajah, De'Aun, Kristian, Nicholas, Nyeliah; cousins, Herman (Betty) King, Mary Grice, Shelly "Butch" Anthony, Lagrant Anthony, Lawrence Gibbs, A.G. Gibbs III, Isaac Gibbs, and Yvonne Gibbs; great cousins, Yolanda, Nadine, Wanda, Ricky, Denise & Michael; special friends, Flossie Simpson, Randolph (Geneva) Carter, James Franklin, Eddie Viverette, Junior Chaney, Wanda Walden, DeJohn, John, Tiajuana, Charlene, Torre, Jearllisa, Dreama, Earl, Motrell Stillings, Ross and Wallace; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The remains will repose after 3:00 pm Friday, May 8, 2020 at Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Avenue. Due to the restrictions from the CDC, we are asking family and friends to pay their respects and follow the CDC guidelines.
