Rupert Grant, 67, of Tampa passed away on November 08, 2020 he was born in Kingston, Jamaica on January 16, 1953 to Rupert Grant Sr. and Ruby Thompson-Lewis. Mr. Grant attended Kingston College (KC) before migrating to the United States in 1977 where he worked many years as a motor winder, he eventually turned his love for equestrian into a career as a Racehorse Trainer. Rupert Grant successfully worked at numerous racetracks across many major US cities. Such as New Jersey, New York, Boston and Philadelphia etc. He eventually settled in Tampa, Florida with his family and made Tampa Bay Downs his home track. He achieved the “Winners Circle” status multiple times throughout his career. Rupert was a charismatic, charming, fun loving father and husband. He was also known for his sense of style, dancing and his love of people.
He leaves behind: a loving wife, Venola Smiley Grant; two beautiful daughters, Kenny Walsh and Tanisha Grant; four handsome sons, Gary Grant of Ohio, Yhanique Grant, Yhaquille Grant and Christoph Grant of Tampa, Florida. He also leaves behind two grandsons, Jansen Glanton Jr., and Yhanique Grant Jr.; and a host of nieces and nephews in New York, Canada, England and Jamaica and a host of other relatives and friends.
