Wanda Thompson-York Obituary

A Celebration of a Life for Ms. Wanda Renee Thompson York of Tampa, Florida, who passed away in her sleep, Friday, January 15, 2021, will be held on Saturday, January 30, at 11 a.m., at Ray Williams Memorial Chapel, 301 North Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL, Pastor Douglas Walker, of Tyer Temple United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery.  Please follow the CDC Guidelines. Masks are required.

Wanda Thompson York was native and life-long resident of Tampa, FL, born to the late Patricia Thompson and Edward York. Wanda had a radiant smile and vibrant personality that lit up any room. She was a genuine, great friend to everyone.

She attended the local public schools of Hillsborough County and was one of the first black students to integrate Bayshore Methodist Christian school. Wanda was a 1980 graduate of Henry Blake Plant High School.

She enjoyed a rewarding career with the City of Tampa for 38 years. She made history in 1987, as the City of Tampa’s first woman and first black Code Enforcement Supervisor. Wanda found her current position with the City of Tampa, as a Real Estate Contract Specialist, very fulfilling.

She leaves to cherish precious memories: her son, Armani Lubin, sisters, Linda Archie (Karawn Garvin), and Sabrina York; aunts, Marlene York-Monroe (John), Evelyn McFadden, John Inez Cohen (Waldence), and Melanie Martin; uncles, Randy Martin, and Blenus Martin; nieces, Diamond Archie, and Michelle Hazard; nephews, Douglas Archie, III, Lance Archie, Terry “Shawn” Ferrell, and Dillon Archie; grandnephew, Jaden Ancrum; a host of loving cousins, Monica Thompson, Rev. Dr. Calvin McFadden (Jamina), Katrina Anderson, Kendria Anderson, Jamela (Aubrey) Grier, Corey McFadden, Carla (Bruce) Mitchell, Vernon (Sherry) Jones, Kevin (Grace) Aleem, Rhoda Aleem, Ramza Aleem, Marlin (Gwen) Jones, Jamal (Marsha) Aleem, Orris Jones, Idris (Tasha) Aleem, Kimberly (Thayer) Mack, Kayon Martin, Rafiek Walker, and many more. A long list of great and faithful friends, Patti Mira, Debbie Mercer, Wanda Ford, Terry Sims, Maria Carmen Hernandez, Sandy Cedola, Vicki Pratt, Mary Jenkins, Frank Crum, James Ford, Ferraro Jacobs, John Archer and many, many more.

The visitation will be held, Friday, January 29, from 3 – 7 p.m. at Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Ave, Tampa, FL 33607.  We are asking family and friends to follow the CDC guidelines. Masks are required.
